WildStyle Gym Member Story: Finding Strength, Community, and Perspective
By Will Fifield, 62, 6+ year member
What drew me to WildStyle Gym?
I discovered WildStyle in 2019 while looking to add something new to my workout routine. At first, I worked with head coach Jason Morris as a personal trainer. He was the perfect fit—our sessions were challenging, but always laced with a good dose of wry humor. Soon, I found myself diving into fitness and kickboxing classes, learning a whole new way to move my body. Along the way, I gained a deeper appreciation for recovery and stretching—things I never took seriously before.
But it wasn’t just the workouts that kept me coming back. I began meeting other like-minded people at the gym, and that’s when I realized WildStyle’s true X factor: its community. Sara and Jason have built something rare—a space where coaches and members alike inspire, challenge, and support one another. The people I sweat with bring a kind of magic to my life that goes far beyond strength and skill.
What’s up with the leg?
In 1990, I lost part of my right leg in a car accident. Early in my recovery, I started asking myself, “I wonder…?” It began simply: “I wonder if I can learn to run again?” I was 27, very weak after months in the hospital, and returning to my construction job was impossible. I moved back in with my parents and started attempting short runs near the park I’d grown up with. Faltering at first, I eventually could actually run. Not far, not fast, but run nonetheless.
Over the years, I’ve pushed myself to strengthen what remains and test the limits of what I can physically achieve. Skateboarding is the only thing that still eludes me—but who knows?
Good for the head (and the heart)
I won’t sugarcoat it—I struggle with depression. But I’ve learned that working out is one of the most effective ways to keep my demons at bay. At WildStyle, I’ve left countless small rivers of sweat on the floor, but I almost always leave with perspective and, sometimes, a lighter heart. Endorphins help, sure—but there’s something uniquely uplifting about sweating alongside a community of driven, inspiring people.
The coaches, the classmates, and the camaraderie—they’ve all made WildStyle my home gym. For strength, for skill, and for spirit, there’s no better place I’ve found.
